This series documents the dominant role played by U.S. Navy aircraft carriers during naval warfare operations in the Pacific Ocean during World War II. Significant records include operation plans and operation orders for many of the major Pacific warfare amphibious operations, intelligence reports, battle experience information bulletins, and action reports of aircraft carriers, cruisers, destroyers and hospital ships. Other records are administrative directives from the Navy Department, and fleet and type commanders; communication files concerning incoming and outgoing message traffic, utilization of radar and radar counter measures, logistics, and navigation; ship damage reports; and ship characteristics cards. There are also records of genealogical interest, such as promotions, officer evaluations, disciplinary actions, condolence letters, awards, and rosters.
